THE POTTER JACK SEARS IN HIS STUDIO

Mendocino: 1974. Woodcut in black. 15.5 x 20.5 inches. One of 66 signed and numbered copies. Printed on laid paper watermarked FJH.

"Jack Sears was a magnificent potter, steeped in Japanese and Korean traditions, but truly original
in his work. Much of his work is of museum quality, though unrecognized to date. He died last year. [2010?]
This piece was made originally for an invitation to an exhibit in a private home which he and I presented
in 1974. There were letterpress invitations, with 1/6 of the above print tipped in. But in addition to the
prints I made for the invitations, I pulled a further 66 impressions which I signed and numbered.
