Erwin Jack Strohmaier, in addition to helping his father Jacob in business, was a photographer for the Air Force in World War II, and had an interest in California and family history.


STROHMAIER, Erwin J. - 92, passed away in Oakland on September 4, 2003. He was born in San Francisco on April 17, 1911. He moved to Oakland as a boy, then to Berkeley when he married. He worked at the family appliance business, Gernhardt-Strohmaier Co. for 31 years as a salesman and repairman; then at UC Livermore Lab as a research technician; at UC Berkeley in the Geology and Landscape Architecture Departments. After retiring he was a docent in the History Department at the Oakland Museum for 16 years. He proudly served in the Air Force in England during WWII as a photographer, and a skilled machinist and woodcarver. He was active in many organizations including the Sierra Club, the Berkeley Camera Club and SIRS. Item #51-1673
