A Catalogue Raisonné of the books and portfolios with original graphic works by Henry Moore. Moore contributed 363 original prints to the 73 books and portfolios that are described and illustrated in this catalogue raisonné. These include all of his work from 1931-1986 as well as the few posthumous works up to 1992.

David Mitchinson, former Head of Collections and Exhibitions at The Henry Moore Foundation, has written a new book, Henry Moore: Prints and Portfolios. Mitchinson worked alongside Moore on his graphics from the late 1960s until the artist's death in 1986. He retired in 2010 after 42 years working at Perry Green.

The book, which has over 400 pages and 800 illustrations, has been published by Patrick Cramer, Geneva. Both Patrick and his late father Gérald worked closely with Moore for many years on his printmaking.

Print-making formed an increasingly important part of Moore's work from the 1970s, when he worked with specialist printers and publishers internationally to meet a growing demand for his work. There are 719 prints in the Moore catalogue raisonné, and of these, 363 appear in some form of deluxe book or portfolio.

The book charts the rich and varied histories of these prints and portfolios, which were created by the artist in collaboration with other artists, writers, typographers, printers and publishers from 1931 onwards.

Also in the book are little-known one-off graphic projects by the artist - a wine label for the 1964 Mouton Rothschild vintage, for example, Moore's personal book plate design, and a print conceived for a bold scheme to introduce modern art to schools.

-------

The interest in engraving and lithography gained the artist in the early 1930s and was accentuated in the 1960s and 1970s. All his prints have been described and reproduced in the four volumes of the engraved work, published from 1973 to 1986. It is only in this work that we tell the history of all those contained in a book, album or luxury catalog.

This new book tells us some interesting details about the author of these books, the printers, the papers, the dimensions, the prints of the prints included.

This book contains over 800 reproductions and offers a wide spectrum of the seven decades in which the artist created.

David Mitchinson, artist's assistant for 18 years and then Curator of the Henry Moore Foundation is the author. Item #51-4864
