"COMMEMORATIVE STAMPS—FAMOUS AMERICANS SERIES". "Third Assistant Postmaster General, "Washington, January 07, 1940. "Supplementing the notice in the Postal Bulletin of December 29, 1939, postmasters and employees of the Postal Service ore hereby advised of the issuance of the second, or Poets' Group, in this special series of postage stamps. "A description of the stamps fellows: 1-cent,green, Henry W. Longfellow, Portland, Me., Feb. 16; 2-cent, red, John Greenleaf Whittier, Haverhill, Mass., Feb. 16; 3-cent,purple, James Russell Lowell, Cambridge, Mass., Feb. 20; 5-cent, blue, Walt Whitman,Camden, N,J., Feb. 20; 10-cent, brown, James Whitcomb Riley, Greenfield, Ind., Feb. 24. "These stamps will be 85/100 by 98/100 inches in dimensions arranged vertically. They will be printed by rotary process and issued in sheets of 70." Postmarked February 1940.
