New York: William Bayard, Jr., 1822. ALS from William Bayard, Jr. to William James of Albany [NY], discussing potential investments. Bayard was a prominent banker and landowner in New York. A close personal friend of Alexander Hamilton, it was to Bayard's New York City home that Hamilton was taken after his duel with Aaron Burr. Hamilton died at Bayard's home the next day. Letter entirely in Bayard's hand. Return address also by Bayard. Signed with a flourish. 7-13/16 x 9-13/16 inches. Also includes a cover (unaddressed), to be folded around letter for mailing.
