[ca. 1929]. Lithograph measuring 3 x 2 1/4 inches (sheet size: 7 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches). Signed and titled in pencil under image. Very good, a few diagonal creases lower left, in margin and also over the image. Edition unknown; probably less than 50. Born in San Francisco, on October 26, 1872, Lawrence Norris Scammon's father had been the captain of a whaling vessel which came around the Horn to California in the 1850s. After graduating from UC Berkeley, the younger Scammon taught at that school at the turn of the century. He studied art at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute in 1898-99. Most of his sketching was done around the hills of Oakland where he lived most of his life on Buena Vista Avenue. He taught privately and was a designer for Roberts Manufacturing Company in San Francisco. Scammon died in Oakland on Oct. 12, 1947. Item #15-1464
