Oakland, CA Circa 1950s. Watercolor on board. Signed lower right. 18 x 24 inches. .Francis Frederick Coan was born in Illinois on Jan. 1, 1914. Coan studied at the AIC under Philbrick, Ritman, and Anisfeld. He was a long-time resident of Oakland with a studio-home at 1550 Hampel. For 35 years he worked as a cost engineer at Zelinski Company (painting & decorating). He painted murals in San Francisco and Chicago, and followed portrait commissions widely. Coan died in San Francisco on July 18, 1980.
