“I would no more teach children military training than teach them arson, robbery, or assassination.” — Eugene V. Debs Stop militarism in our schools. Poster
New York: War Resisters League, circa 1970s. 22 x 17 inches. Monochrome offset on tan paper, before the later color commercialized version. Pinholes in corners. Piece missing in lower margin.
Peg Averill's drawings, accompanied by lively, politically-charged slogans, were mobilised during the anti-war and equality movements of the 1960s and 1970s. Averill was active in the War Resisters League and also in NOW (National Organization for Women). This poster criticizes both the American armed forces and education system which promote and glorify military action. Item #51-2052
